Summer School Studies in Game Development

 

Game Programming Intensive Course (3 cr) between 5 - 9 June 2017

Target group: The course is designed for everyone interested in game programming (minimum age 15). The objective of the course is that the student masters the use of Unity or Unreal Engine and makes a computer game using either as a tool, as per instructions.

Time: 5 - 9 June 2017 Start on Monday 5 June at 10 am.
Instructed work every day
from 9 am. to 6 pm.
Computer classroom available Mon-Thu until 9 pm.
The camp ends on Friday 9 June at 2 pm.

Course content:
• Visual Studio and Unity or Unreal Engine basics
• c# basics
• Principles of game application
• 3D game basics
• 3D mathematics basics
• Downloading and presenting 3D assets
• User feed
• Creating game mechanics
• Adding sounds
• HUD and adding menu texts
• Developing own game

Price of the course:      45 euros 
Catering available at price:   80 euros (including breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and coffee-service at the final ceremony)
Accommodation:                     in local student dormitory in twin bed rooms at price 12 €/ night. Please, note that in the room there are no pillows, covers and bed linens available, so please take your own sleeping bag with you.

Developing a Commercial Game Application

Kajaani University of Applied Sciences offers summer studies in Game Development. You can choose to complete the course "Developing a Commercial Game Application" worth 10 - 15 credits in summer 2017.

Duration of Studies:   12.6. - 28.7.2017 (10 ECTS)
12.6. - 23.8.2017 (15 ECTS)
 Requirements: Previous knowledge of basic programming or graphics
 Price: 15 euros / ECTS
 Registration: Until 14 May 2017
  The course is offered in the open university of applied sciences and can be accredited as part of your studies at your home university. Negotiate any possible studies to be accredited and the student financial aid for summer with your own university in advance.

During the course, you will work in game development teams for two or three months while simultaneously learning the objectives and methods of developing a commercial game. Within this course, you will create a game demo in production teams aimed at a wider audience and participate in the Assembly game development competition during the same year. You may have the opportunity to publish your own game.

Please note that if you wish to develop your skills in using either Unity 3D or Unreal Engine 4, a week-long intensive course for this purpose is available summer 2017.

Please note! Both the summer course and the intensive course are free of charge for exchange students coming from Kajaani University of Applied Sciences partner universities.

 Accommodation in Kajaani

You can find accommodation for summer on campus. The Vocational College KAO offers rooms in a dormitory for the price EUR 100 / double room / month and EUR 170 for a single room / month. Further information (in Finnish).

In addition, you can apply for accommodation from Kajaanin Pietari, that offeres shared student accommodation on campus for the price EUR 325 / single room / month.

Exchange Students

Students coming for exchange from our partner universities are nominated by their home universities. The students should follow the normal application procedure for exchange students. Incoming exchange students do not have pay for the summer school.
